Weekly Update September 30, 2013

Please remember to sign your student's agenda.  I check agendas Monday morning for signatures.  Home Reading should be included in the Agenda with the book name and time read.

WE CARE KITS--The students will be assembling kits in our classroom and delivering them to CLWR at the end of the month.  Items are due on Oct. 11.  Check with your child to see what item they are bringing.  We will assemble 13 kits as a class.

ELA--The Timeline Project is due October 2. We have been working on Sentence Structure and identifying types of sentences.  Spelling Worksheets are due each Friday with a Spelling Test as well.  Four Reader Responses are due on November 1.  We will be starting a Short Stories Unit at the end of this week or early next week.

Math--Gr. 7--Students are working on Ch. 2--Operations on Decimal Numbers.

Math--Gr. 8--Students are working on Ch. 2--Ratios, Rates, and Proportional Reasoning.

Social Studies--Students are working on World Views, about what history means to them and some vocabulary items.

Weekly Update September 22, 2013

ELA--We are continuing to work on our Timeline Project. Students need to write an autobiography and find at least three pictures from each year of their life to scrapbook electronically or manually.  This project tentatively is due on September 30.  Spelling Worksheets are due each Friday with a Spelling Test as well.  Two Reader Responses are due on September 27.  We will also be working on comprehension activities and adjectives/adverb activities.

Math--Gr. 7--Students will be completing Ch. 1--Co-ordinates and Design with a test on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Math--Gr. 8--Students will be completing Ch. 1--Representing Data with a test on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Social Studies--Students worked on some timeline activities working with dates using BCE and CE.  We will be talking about what history means to them and some vocabulary items.

ELA--We have started our daily activities and routine for Power Paragraphs and Spelling Worksheets which are due each Friday.  We will be reviewing Reader Responses and expectations for Home Reading and will be starting some Comprehension activities as well as a Project by the end of the week.

Math--Gr. 7--Students are working through a review and will start Ch. 1--Co-ordinates and Design this week.

Math--Gr. 8--Students are working through a review and will start Ch. 1--Representing Data this week.

Social Studies--Students will start a Scavenger Hunt of their text book and begin discussions about Ancient Civilizations and History.

Welcome Back, September 3, 1013

Welcome Back!

Tomorrow is our first day of classes and the Gr. 7/8s will have Shops at Nelson MacIntyre in the afternoon. I will walk the students to class in the afternoon. Please make sure to plan on pick up arrangements with your student. They may walk back to school and wait for you here or they can be picked up at Nelson Mac at an agreed upon location at 3:47 p.m. The students start with Food & Nutrition. Shops will be Day 2, p.m.

There will be no canteen this week. Please send a nut-free lunch with your child.

There will be no Chapel tomorrow as it is the first day of classes. Our first Chapel will be Sept. 11.

The Gr. 7/8 class will have a student teacher joining us from the University of Winnipeg, Mr. Ryan Malech. He will be with us various times over the year: full days this week, Mon. & Wed. afternoons until Nov. 15, then full days until Christmas.

We also have two EAs assisting students this year; Mrs. Jaworski (Mrs. J.) and Mrs. Cherwonick (Mrs. C.)
