Update December 15, 2014

ELA--Students will complete their Christmas Novel Study on The Angel Tree tomorrow. They will work on their final project on Wednesday and Thursday and present it to the class on Friday.  Spelling Test--Thursdays.

Math--Gr. 7--Students will complete Ch. 5--Probability on Wednesday with a test on Thursday.

Math--Gr. 8--Students have completed Ch. 5--Surface Area.  They will complete a Chapter Review tomorrow with a test on Wednesday or Thursday.

Social Studies--Students have begun discussing the influence of the natural environment on ways of life.

Science--The students are beginning their final projects for Structures.

ELA--Monday--Agenda Check and Reading Log Check for 150 minutes of completed reading signed by a parent.
Three Reader Responses are due November 26.
Students have completed their Novel Study on Tuck Everlasting.  Their Final Project is due Dec. 1.  They will view the movie on Thursday, Nov. 27. 
Next week we will be practising our skits for the Christmas Concert, completing an Art Project, starting our Christmas Novel Study on The Angel Tree, and going to MTYP.

Math--Gr. 7--Students have started Ch. 4--Fractions, Decimals, and Percents.

Math--Gr. 8--Students continue to work on Ch. 4--Understanding Percent (changing fractions to decimals to percents).


Social Studies--Students have begun discussing push and pull factors and population density throughout the world.


Science--Students have learned about three main types of structures and are working on centre of gravity.

Three Reader Responses are due November 26.
Students continue to work on their individualized spelling program with tests and new word lists given on Thursday each week.  The students should be completing their Novel Study on Tuck Everlasting by the end of this week with a Final Project next week.  They will view the movie next week once the novel is complete.

Math--Gr. 7--Students are working on Ch. 3--Geometry and Measurement and should be finished by the end of the week.

Math--Gr. 8--Students are working on Ch. 4--Understanding Percent (changing fractions to decimals to percents).


Social Studies--Students are completing their chapter and are working on creating their own eco-zone with given criteria.


Science--Students have just completed the Interactions with the Environment Unit and will begin their unit on The Earth's Crust this week.

The students have been working on some comprehension stories, prepositions, grammar and their spelling program.
They have begun a Novel Study on Tuck Everlasting.

Math--Gr. 7--Students are working on Ch. 2--Operations on Decimal Numbers along with a new online program called Mathletics.

Math--Gr. 8--Students are working on Ch. 3--Pythagorean Relationship along with a new online program called Mathletics.


Social Studies--Students have been working on a travel itinerary using time zones and mapping skills.  They will continue to discuss regions and landforms in Canada.


Religion--Reformation

Science--Students have completed cellular respiration and photosynthesis as well as sustainability and are working on transfer of energy within food webs.

ELA--Every Monday morning I check agendas for signatures and Reading Logs for 150 minutes of completed reading signed by a parent. 
Four Reader Responses are due October 31.  
The All About Me Project will be due at the end of Monday's class.  Students were to finish their good copies over the weekend and use tomorrow's class to print and assemble their final hand-in copy.
We have started an individualized spelling program where the students choose their own words based on a Spelling Rule of the Week, Commonly Misspelled Words, and a list of their own spelling words that they need to practice.  Spelling Tests are on Thursday and we will choose a new rule on Thursdays as well for the next week.
We will be working on some comprehension stories, creative writing and some adjective/adverb practice in the upcoming weeks.

Math--Gr. 7--Students are beginning Ch. 2--Operations on Decimal Numbers

Math--Gr. 8--Students are completing Ch. 2--Ratios, Rates and Proportional Reasoning.


Social Studies--Students will be discussing regions and landforms in Canada.


Science--Students have worked on ecosystems and their components, ecological succession related to the Mt. St. Helen's eruption and sustainability including the Aboriginal Perspective of survival of the 7th generation.

ELA--Students have completed one novel in their Literature Circles and will complete the second novel by June 13.  The novels are: The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and Freak the Mighty. Final Projects will be due June 4 and June 13 on the novels.  We will watch the movies for these novels before the end of June. 

Math--Gr. 7 & 8--Students have completed all of the curriculum outcomes for the year.


Social Studies--Students are completing the Middle Ages and will have a test on Wednesday.  They will begin the Renaissance and Reformation this week.
