Dear Parents and students,

Christmas break is finally here. The past week has been a busy one. The class has finished our novel study on 'The Boy in the Striped Pajamas' and has been busy working on their final project. The final projects are due on January 9th,2017. Today we viewed the movie that goes along with the book and compared the book to the movie. We also had a holiday potluck to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

The students also have a presentation due in social studies on January 10th, 2017.

HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Tuesday, December 13, 2016

Happy December Parents,

Its that time of year again, only 7 full days of school left and then its Christmas Break.

The class once again is collecting donations for the Christmas Cheer Board. We have a family of 5 this year that we are collecting for. Talk to your children as they have already signed up to bring in donations. All donations are to be brought in by December 19th, as the hamper will be delivered on December 21st. Thank you for allthe food and gifts and your particapation in delivering the hamper.

We are finishing up our earth science unit in science, with a test on Friday December 16th.

We are also finishing our novel study on The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. Next week we are going to watch the movie and compare it with the book. There will be a letter coming home this week as the movie is not G rated as it deals with a mature topic including the Holocaust. I will be asking you to sign a permission form to allow your child to view the movie during class time.

The class is also doing a secret santa this year. The secret santa will go over 4 days next week. The budget is to spend no more then $15 dollars total on 3 small gifts and a bigger gift on the 4th day. The smaller gifts can be as simple as a chocolate bar or candy. The students have been assigned there secret santa partner last week.

The class is also going to have a holiday potluck on December 22nd while watching the movie. Those who did not bring in a food item at the Halloween potluck are being asked to bring this time. We have an egg and milk allergy in the classroom. We will also be celebrating the anticipation of the Lord's birth on the last day of school. They will also be caroling in the afternoon with the rest of the school.

There is no school on December 23rd. Classes will resume on January 9th, 2017.

Have a great week

Welcome Back!

It has been a great 3 days with the grade 7/8 students.  I have really enjoyed and am really excited for the rest of the year!

The class worked together this week to create Classroom Rules and Expectations to allow responsibility and ownership on the students' behalf.  They created a lengthy list as seen below and have all signed the contract.

We also discussed multiple intelligence's, which helps the students determine their different learning styles. All students have brought home a booklet showing which learning style that best suits them. I will be using this information for planning purposes and to help certain students.

FRENCH INFO:

"Students have been asked to bring one photo (or more) from their summer vacation to French class for Monday. We will be writing sentences about our summer vacations in French next week.  Please remember to check the French blog."

I am in the process of updating the blog so please ignore the dates and link on the side of the page.

IMPORTANT DATES:

I trust all the students are busy reading the class novel and doing chapter responses as it will be due next Monday and I don't want anyone to get  behind. Also a reminder that we have a spelling test and a bible memory quiz on Friday. To grade 7/8 parents
I hope everyone enjoyed the Christmas break and had a chance to relax with friends and family.  It was really nice for me to be back at school with all the students.  You may have heard that I have asked the students to start using their agenda to improve the planning and organization of their homework.  It will also serve as a good communication tool for you and I regarding how your child is doing.
In Chapel this month we will be learning about prayer.  We have already started the discussion about all the different things we can talk to God about.
7/8 Math- The students will be learning how to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions.  Please feel free to use the mathletics program on your computer at home to reinforce learning on this topic.
ELA- We will start spelling again this week.
-The students each selected a novel which they are to read and respond to.
-We are also working on improving our writing skills using the 6 writing traits.
Science - We will be continuing our Fluid Unit, specifically looking at hydraulics and pneumatic
                 systems.
I encourage all students to dress for the cold as they are still outside for lunch recess.  However I am  available during this time if students need help with school work.
Hope you have a great week.
